1. Snyder V. Phelps
In this case, the family of deceased Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder filed a lawsuit against members of the Westboro Baptist Church who picketed at his funeral.

2. Tinker v. Des Moines
Two teens wore armbands to school to protest the Vietnam war and were suspended.

3. Texas v. Johnson
In 1984, in front of the Dallas City Hall, Gregory Lee Johnson burned an American flag as a means of protest against Reagan administration policies. Johnson was tried and convicted under a Texas law outlawing flag desecration

4. Bethel School District v. Fraser
In 1983, Fraser, a student at Bethel High Schoo,l delivered a speech during an assembly that used extremely vulagar language. He was suspended and his name was removed from a list of candidates for graduation speaker.
